Protect Your Home: Addressing Roof Damage After Severe Storms

In light of the recent severe storms in Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana, homeowners facing roof damage may consider this an opportunity to address any existing issues and ensure their homes are adequately protected. It's crucial to act swiftly to assess and repair any storm-related damage to prevent further issues like leaks or structural concerns. Taking proactive steps now can help safeguard your home against future weather events and maintain its value and integrity over time.

How to Mitigate Storm Damage in the Future

There are several preventative measures that you can take to minimize the damage done to your property by tornadoes. One of the most important measures to perform routinely is to trim the trees that hang over or nearby your roof. After trimming your tree limbs, make sure to clear out any debris from your gutters. Another measure you can take is to secure your outdoor furniture or to take it inside. If you have already been impacted by previous storms, make sure that you get a professional out to inspect your roof for any damages.

Prevent Roof Damage from Storms

A preventative measure that you could take to protect your roof is to invest in a high wind rated shingle, like TAMKO Titan. The typical shingle has a wind rating of 110mph to 130mph depending on if it is a standard application or a special application. However, when TAMKO Titan is installed with 6 nails (special application) it has a wind warranty of 160 mph! In addition, TAMKO Titan shingles are Impact Resistant, Class 3. Which means the shingle can withstand a 1 ¾-inch steel ball dropped from 20 feet without breaking. They do this to replicate the impact of hail raining down on your roof.
